United Seamen, Ports & General Workers’ Union of Liberia (USPOGUL) is licensed by the Ministry of Labour of the Republic of Liberia to represent workers within the transport sector at national and international levels as a National Trade Union Organization. 

The United Seamen, Ports & General Workers’ Union of Liberia (USPOGUL) is affiliated to the Liberia Labour Congress (LLC) and the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) representing workers’ national and international.

 The United Seamen, Ports & General Workers’ Union of Liberia (USPOGUL) is established to defend the economic and social interest of Seafarers, Fisheries, Stevedores/Long shore, Inland navigation and General Workers’ at national and international levels, irrespective of color, sex, race, nationality or creed.
The United Seamen, Ports & General Workers’ Union of Liberia (USPOGUL) is to faithfully serve workers in true independence from external control or domination in whatever form, but decides its own policies and actions in defending workers against discriminations and exploitations.

The United Seamen, Ports & General Workers’ Union of Liberia (USPOGUL) is a member of trade union group operating in several other counties including Grand Bassa, Maryland and Sinoe. 

Brief History About The United Seamen, Ports & General Workers’ Union of Liberia (USPOGUL)
· The United Seamen Ports & General Workers’ Union of Liberia (USPOGUL) was  founded on December 6, 1997, as a national trade union organization which merged maritime waterfront and general workers’ in the Republic of Liberia.

· The United Seamen, Ports & General Workers’ Union of Liberia (USPOGUL) saw the need to merged maritime waterfront and general workers for patriotism, honesty, decent workplace  as per national and international  labour practices and self-discipline.

· In all aspects of its work, USPOGUL subscribes fully to the principles of the world free trade union movement.

· The headquarters of the United Seamen, Ports & General Workers’ Union of Liberia (USPOGUL) is located in Monrovia, Republic of Liberia.

· The motto is “Unity is Strength” and the slogan is Injury to one Injury to all.
· The color of the union is Red, White and Blue.

The Aims and Objective

To promote work place recognition of the Labour Laws of Liberia and convention Nos. 87 and 98 of the International Labour Organization (ILO). Concerning freedom of association and protection of the right to organize and bargain collectively and relative instrument.

To defend, protect and promote national and international, the economic, social occupational, educational and cultural interests of workers.

In making (USPOGUL) to be a trade union organization adding value to workers right and maximize in returns to their livelihood.

Vision
 Is to ensure high ethical standards of professional labour force with greater understanding, among all workers with unity, social dialogue, employment opportunities and practical solidarity as the driving force.

THE UNITED SEAMEN PORTS AND GENERAL WORKERS’ UNION OF LIBERIA was founded in 1997, as a national trade union organization, which merged maritime and all waterfront workers’ in Liberia.
It is a free trade union entity, established to defend the economic and social interest of Seafarers, Fisheries, Dockers Stevedores at National and International lever, irrespective of colored, sex, race, nationality or creed.


The ITF is the Global Union Federation (GUF) that this union is affiliated to.
